MY WORK

Program Development

Designed and implemented a comprehensive patient-stakeholder engagement program for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). Facilitated development of organizational goals based on existing resources and informed by comparable engagement programs. Established reviewer vetting and assessment processes. Developed extensive training program that employs a wide range of social media tools. Currently further developing, refining and implementing training curriculum and providing ongoing content expertise and strategic advice. 

Co-founded MathAction®, a nonprofit educational organization that promotes mathematics by integrating current events and social studies with middle school common core mathematics. Developed mission statement, by-laws and business (financial/marketing/operational) plan. Recruited and trained board members. Provide ongoing strategic advice and organizational development expertise.

Spearheaded the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) Aspen Project and Catalyst Meetings, which bring together a diverse group of visionaries to cultivate innovation in breast cancer research. Designed agendas, identified and recruited participants, co-facilitated meetings using interactive graphic tools that foster innovation. Drafted reports, briefing papers.

Supported the restructuring and expansion of the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC). Developed strategic goals and annual work plans for newly formed departments. Drafted personnel policies, evaluation tools and position descriptions. Designed orientation program, hired, trained and supervised new staff.  

Supported launch of NBCC's 31 Myths Campaign addressing the most common misunderstandings about breast cancer and breast cancer research and the Breast Cancer Deadline 2020 Campaign to end breast cancer by January 2020. Facilitated working committees, expert panels, and stakeholder meetings to develop a detailed vision for quality breast cancer care, produced position statements, educational materials, and advocate training programs.  

Launched a Breast Cancer International Advocate Network to provide global mentorship, networking and partnerships needed to make significant progress toward the mission to end breast cancer. Audited programs, identified emerging leaders, managed scholarship fund.

Directed Project LEAD, a science and advocacy course for breast cancer advocates. Recruited and trained faculty, led curriculum development, recruited and evaluated participants. Held dozens of successful courses in multiple states. Designed assessment tools, outreach materials and continuing education program. Participated in program fundraising. Managed scholarship program.

Developed and managed Planned Parenthood of Tompkins County’s legislative and advocacy program. Worked closely with Board to create legislative priorities. Participated in the controversial process of becoming the first abortion provider in the County.


Teaching, Facilitation and Outreach 
Adjunct professor at Georgetown University and George Washington University. Co-teach graduate and undergraduate course "Gender and the Law" and "Introduction to Gender Studies." 2013-present

Trained National Breast Cancer Coalition breast cancer advocates in congressional lobbying and science advocacy, led presentations at annual advocacy conferences, science courses and community forums. Developed curriculum for educational programs, produced ten-year anniversary promotional video, testified at congressional hearing on alternative and complementary medicine.

Represented National Treasury Employees Union union members in labor disputes, trained members in conflict resolution techniques, organized member recruitment events.


Selected Research and Publications
Provided technical and editorial assistance to American Association of University Women (AAUW) on a range of projects and reports including Why So Few (2010), The Simple Truth About the Gender Pay Gap (Spring 2015) and 
Solving the Equation: The Variables for Women’s Success in Engineering and Computing (Spring 2015).

Produced scientific and policy reports for a wide range of projects including the Breast Cancer Deadline 2020 (Why Now), the Artemis Project (focused on developing a breast cancer vaccine) and the Breast Cancer Prevention Summit. Hired and managed science analysts and technical writers, managed editing, publication and dissemination process.
NBCC Guide to Breast Cancer Care (2001). 116-page guide to evidence-based patient centered breast cancer care, and How to Get Good Care for Breast Cancer (2002). Low literacy booklet designed to empower breast cancer patients. Spanish language version created 2003.
